Pay As You Save

The Target 2050 partnership of Stroud District Council and Severn Wye Energy Agency has been chosen as one of just five areas taking part in a national pilot project.

The Pay As You Save (PAYS) scheme trialled interest free loans to homeowners for energy saving measures including insulation, heating system improvements and renewable energy systems. Householders will use the money saved on their fuel bills to repay the loan, so effectively there is no ongoing cost, but there will be other benefits from day 1, including reduced carbon emissions and a warmer, more comfortable home.

There are 50 places on this pilot scheme, the first 20 were signed up by the end of March 2010 and a further 30 the following year. Each homeowner had a home energy survey through Target 2050, which identified the measures needed and the cost and carbon savings they will achieve. They also received follow up help and advice. Eg. finding installers and technical questions around the quotes obtained.
